Vanessa is a NYC-based jazz vocalist. She embodies the tradition of the masters, with a beautiful sound, sweeping range and tremendous swing feel.
She began her musical journey since the moment she could talk; singing in her school choir and children’s church choir. At the age of 10 she started taking piano lessons and at the age of 12 she began classical voice lessons. In high school, she was involved in musical theater productions, choir, dance, drama and anything performance related. In a desire to continue pursuing her passion for music, Vanessa attended New Jersey City University where she studied with Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist, Roseanna Vitro, and operatic-soprano Donna Connolly. She graduated in 2010 with a BA in Music Education.
After graduating university, Vanessa started working as a jazz vocalist in the NY/NJ area performing with numerous ensembles. She has released two co-lead albums with trombonist and husband, Robert Edwards. “Play Date”(2019) and “Home Life” (2021) the latter being a pandemic project, recorded at home with only two instruments.
Vanessa is currently working on two new albums. One is more in the tradition of classic jazz vocal albums where she is accompanied by a great rhythm section including Adam Birnbaum -p, Neal Miner- b and Aaron Kimmel -d. The second album is a collaboration with Robert Edwards, but this time with guitar and bass to accompany them.
Vanessa can be seen performing at venues all around NYC.
